What are Cannabis Isolates vs. Distillates?

Isolates and distillates are two of the most common cannabis concentrates. Read more about all the cannabis concentrates here.

The main differences between isolates and distillates are their effects and how they’re produced.

Cannabis Isolate

This is the purest form of cannabis you can get. The primary isolates are THC isolate or CBD isolate. Nearly 99.99% of the cannabinoid are found in the isolate. Isolates are decarboxylated, meaning that the isolate's material is already active, and once consumed, you can get all the medicinal benefits.

What are the benefits of isolates?

The reason cannabis isolates are so popular is that they are easy to dose with more predictable medicinal effects – without the presence of other cannabinoids.

THC isolates can get you very high but also have great medicinal benefits with the ability to treat pain, stress, cancer, insomnia, and much more. CBD isolates will not get you high but are helpful for their anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and anti-cancer properties.

How do you consume isolates?

Isolates are most commonly consumed by dabbing, vaporizing, cooking, and infusing. It can also come in topical form.

Does Clearly California have any isolates?

We sure do! Clearly California uses a proprietary method of extraction to create some high-quality Diamonds. Check out our Twin Fin products, which come with THC crystals (isolate) on one side of the jar, and High Terpene Extract (full-spectrum sauce) on the other side.

Cannabis Distillate

Cannabis distillate is raw or crude cannabis oil extract. It contains a range of cannabinoids and terpenes, and these chemical compounds can be separated from one another in a process called fractional distillation.

What are the benefits of distillates?

Many medical cannabis patients prefer distillate because of its versatility and potency. It is “full-spectrum,” with many cannabinoids, unlike isolates, but is still very potent, containing 90-99% THC. It’s also typically odorless and flavorless, although terpenes can be reintroduced to the final product (which changes potency).

How do you consume distillates?

Distillates are most commonly found in vape cartridges and edibles. However, THC and CBD distillates can also be consumed through dab rigs, vapes, or sublingually.

Does Clearly California have any distillates?

Yes! Our 510 threads and CCELL Listos contain distillates. Our live resin and high terpene extract products also contain distillates.

Which form is right for you?

Most people prefer a mixture of isolates and distillates because the entourage effect produces benefits neither concentrate can deliver on its own. The only way to determine if isolates or distillates are right for you is to try both. Remember that they are pure and potent forms of cannabis that act fast with medicinal benefits.
